about me

This is me...!

I really had to dig into my memory about when my travel addiction started. I believe it is partly a genetic thing; I was born this way! To top that, I’m a typical sagittarius which is:

“…linked with the element of fire, which represents outgoing,
action-oriented energy that seeks spontaneous expression.
The symbolic focus of the sign is connection to the
principle of exploration and evolution.
Correspondingly, Sagittarians are reputed to be drawn toward
travel and philosophy, and to enjoy social contacts,
meeting new people and exploring other cultures.
They are said to be highly intelligent [ahum], broad-visioned and
tolerant in their views…”
(Wikipedia, the ‘true source of knowledge of the new generation’)

But the first proof of this need-to-explore goes back to my childhood years. I was about 4 years old. I don’t remember why, but I packed my little David de Kabouter suitcase (David the Gnome for all the non-Dutch speaking readers) and I ran away from home, off into the wide world. Of course I didn’t get far, because my parents had told me I was not allowed to cross the streets (hello! I was only 4). So I didn’t, I just took two right turns and sat at our garage for a few hours. Then I went back home.

Years passed. I finished primary school, high school and went to college and university. That’s where it came back. This urge to travel and explore new worlds was on my mind constantly… as was my chronic lack of funds. But then the universe offered a helping hand and I was given the opportunity to do my graduation research in South Africa. That’s where the shit hit the fan. I looooooved it!

At the same time, I have been putting my life and beliefs in perspective and did some serious soul-searching over the past years. Conclusion: I don’t want to get sucked into the system; I was not born to spend my life sitting in an office 40 hours a week. Consumerism doesn’t make me happy; believe me, you need less than you think. And I don’t want to live somebody else’s life: MY life, MY choices!

This is it! I’ve found my biggest passion, and I’m gonna wear it now. I got my priorities straight and I found the guts to follow my heart and start living MY dream!

Be inspired!
